Description: What are the ethical and regulatory challenges pertaining to human stem cell research? Drawing on the experiences and work of the International Society for Stem Cell Research's (ISSCR) Task Force on Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research,the ISSCR’s Task Force on the Clinical Translation of Stem Cells, the ISSCR’s Task Force on Unproven Stem Cell Treatments, and the ISSCR’s Ethics and Public Policy Committee, this symposium aims at reviewing the present state of human stem cell research and its path to the clinic, and discussing with European stakeholders (ethicists, distinguished scientists and policymakers) the way forward towards the implementation of ethically and socially robust guidance and regulation for this frontier science. European stakeholders will be given the opportunity to exchange views with a body in a unique position to influence future international practices as well as policy-making, given the committee's position within the ISSCR.
