Description: With this conference, the ZiF-research group 'Challenges to the Image of Humanity and Human Dignity by New Developments in Medical Technology' will start its work. Previously, a preparatory conference was held in July 2009 on the subject 'Human dignity and Image of Humanity-status quo'. The research group will deal-among other things-with the ethical and juridical problems of In-vitro-Fertilisation, pre-implantation diagnostics, reproductive and therapeutic cloning, transplantation medicine (including xenotransplantation), the creation of chimera and hybrids, deep brain stimulation, enhancement and man-machine interfaces. Besides, the main focus should be on the possible consequences for a reasonable use of the concept of human dignity and the range of an argumentative appeal on a certain image of humanity. The opening conference provides a basis for the elaboration of the decisive questions with different technologies of the newer medicine.
